Coaches Corner

  • What time are classes?
    Youth classes (ages 5-15) Tue/Thur 5:45pm-6:45pm Adult classes (ages 16+) Tue/Thur 7:00pm-8:30pm
  • How much does it cost?
    Registration is handled by the Finley Community Center and Prices are set by the community center but average around: $144/quarter* A quarter is 3 months, this works out to $48/mo
  • Where are classes held?
    2060 W College Ave in the Finley Community Center's "Valley Oak Room"
  • Can I try it before signing up?
    Yes, No, and yes again. Due to insurance reasons; all participants are required to be registered prior to attendance.. However, classes can still be tried risk free, as the course can be dropped for a full refund if a student finds Judo not to their liking at the end of the 2 week trial period* *Trial period is the first two weeks of a quarter.
  • How do I sign up?
    Online Here or Call 707-543-3737 ext #3 *Late registration must be done over the phone.
  • How old is too old?
    Many people see their everyday battles not against an opponent but rather against a freshly polished floor, wet driveway, a childs toy, the bathroom shower, or uneven pavement. The first thing taught and learned in Judo is the ability to fall and fall safely. This one pivitol skill is not just something adults can learn at any age but something that they should learn.
  • How long does it take to get a black belt?
    Usually about one thousand hours of practice. For most this is in the range of 5-7 years but can be achieved much faster or slower depending on the number of hours practiced each week.
  • What will I learn?
    Judo is a martial art that focuses on Throws and Grappling. So the short answer is throws and grappling. The long answer is a bit harder. Nearly all judoka (judo practitioners) do judo for various reasons and when asked this simple question you can get a range of answers from self defense to balance to respect to disipline to sportsmanship.
